The pickup truck believed stolen by Jesse Imeson after he allegedly murdered an elderly couple has been found abandoned in a forest west of Ottawa.

The silver 2006 GMC Sierra was found by a citizen at around 7 p.m. Monday in a heavily wooded area near Renfrew, about 100 kilometres west of Ottawa.

After the discovery of the truck, which still had its original licence plates, members of the Renfrew OPP and the eastern region OPP emergency response team began an intensive search. Today canine and helicopter units will join in the search.

The truck will be subjected to extensive forensic examination at an OPP laboratory today.

Windsor police Staff Sgt. Ed McNorton said there are currently no plans for Windsor officers to travel to Renfrew.

"The OPP have more than enough officers and they know the bush," said McNorton.

The truck was found in the Township of Whitewater Region, an area bordered by a section of the Ottawa River that is known for whitewater rafting.

It is about 720 kilometres northeast of Windsor.

Imeson, 22, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for the murder of Carlos Rivera, whose body was found in Imeson's Windsor apartment on July 19, and Bill and Helene Regier, who were found shot dead in their home near Dashwood, in Huron County, on July 23.

A funeral for the couple was held Monday.

A television crew from America's Most Wanted was in Windsor Monday filming locations for an item about Imeson to be broadcast on a future episode.

Imeson has been the subject of an intense manhunt that has brought in tips and reports of sightings from across Canada.

Police have set up a dedicated phone line for tips in the case at 1-877-584-8477.

Imeson is described as six feet one inch tall, weighing 200 pounds with short shaved brown hair and brown eyes.

He has distinct tattoos on his forearms, with darker and more elaborate tattoos on his left arm that extend across his hand to his fingers.

Police advise anyone who sees Imeson, who is considered armed and dangerous, to not approach him and to call police or 911.

The OPP throughout the province are advising citizens to be vigilant and lock all doors, avoid allowing strangers into their homes and to ensure that all residences are well lit.
