Chamber wants visitors to pay highway tickets on the spot

WINDSOR - The Ontario Chamber of Commerce wants traffic tickets given to out-of-province motorists paid on the spot so violators can't leave and never pay.
It sounds like a good idea to Windsor's provincial offences director, who is trying to collect $3.6 million in unpaid fines from people across the United States.
"We're looking at millions of dollars. We have a big problem as a border city. No question about that.
"We get them from all 50 states, quite frankly," said Victor Lipnicki.
"I keep threatening to send my staff to Hawaii to collect fines, but I can't get it approved in the budget."
The chamber passed the resolution over the weekend.
"We just think it's a good thing, and we want to stir the pot and try to make things happen," said Bob Fox, president of the Chatham and District Chamber of Commerce.
A press release from the chamber said Ontario's legislation allows people who don't live in the area to "flout our traffic laws within the province with little or no recourse." _________________ New! On Your Mind & Music Industry sections.
