Bashing something positive for that reason doesn't add up to me... especially to an organization that has shown support for your movement. |
I think what you might not realize, is that it's only been recently that some cats from windsor have been getting that shine on HHC,for the longest time, cats outside of windsor for the most part, looked at windsor as a part of detroit so it wasn't relevant, or it wasn't canadian enough, or worse,a part of the canadian hip hop movement in canada that just didn't exist.
I think what a lot of cats are feeling is that they have been glossed over, like no one in windsor has been doing any shows, when actually they have been.
So i really don't think it's been a matter of artists from windsor bashing on jesse,i just think that you,and others have failed to realize that windsor artists haven't just started doing shows since 07,we've been doing shows for quite a while. |
Nah you shouldn't assume what my perception of Windsor is at all. I like Windsor, and always have. Got fam on the border. I've been following certain acts from Windsor since the late 90's... and yes, following their shows... but doing shows doesn't equal success in any way.
Hhc put me onto Essex Court and the kid Quiz years ago as well as EMBASSY and put me onto Raw Camp about 2 years ago... I think what some artists fail to realize is that just because they're making music and performing doesn't automatically mean people are going to come knocking down their doors to talk about them. How many Windsor artists have a video in med to high rotation on MuchMusic right now or a single spinning on the college circuit nationwide? How many of them have a professional press-kit that has been submitted to media companies like Hhc? How many have an album I can go into an HMV in Ottawa (where I live) or better yet, Vancouver, to purchase it? Valid questions....
Anyways, my point was it was 1 article and Windsor wasn't the only scene that wasn't discussed. And based on how long the the article is I'd say it would be pretty crazy to expect every scene to be mentioned. It's a quick summary of some of the shit popping on the north side... at no point does it say that it's the only shit going on, it evens listed within the piece as a "quick summary"... if y'all don't like it, write and submit your own. You can talk about the windsor scene from start to finish.
But No one owes anyone anything... people want support they need to work for it. Grants like videofact and the cancon radio rules seem to have these canadian artists thinking that they are entitled to the world just because they make music...
if you think I'm wrong then we can agree to disagree, I just think it's a shame the thread was made to begin with. |

| First Belushi... I give you much respect because all of your points were well written and you made a lot of sense. Now as far as artists who have press kits and music in stores like HMV..lets see we have So-liva, TRP, Miclordz, Academy(who have a feature and song produced by Moka Only) and Krimson just to name a few. Academys artist JReno is getting alotta buzz on the underground psycho circuit (ICP/Psychopathicrecords) stateside and is considered Canada's KING of Wicked Rap being featured on the nationally distributed Tunnel Runners compilation (Hatchet-House/Psychopathic/SonyD3 Records and a featured performing at the annual Gathering of the Juggalos in Cave-In Illinois.. So-liva and the Miclordz both submitted videos to MuchMusic..Also another Windsor hip-hop artist Lyrical Bliss had a video (Hopeless) in rotation also. Academy just filmed its debut video "Hip-Hop" and will be submitting it to MuchMusic when the editing process is done. Now the reason i brought up Windsor is because its 10 minutes away from a major U.S. music market Detroit. It wasn't so much that any artist didn't get mentioned but this region didn't.. Kardinal DEBUTED DANGEROUS in Windsor FIRST...Alot of these BIG Canadian don't even come here to promote which is RIDICULOUS nor do they reach out to the artists here. There are plenty artists who are doing things with out thinking they're entitled to a thing..Most the artists look at TDOT and the media in the other regions like whatever simply because they EXPECT to GET slighted. Most of the artists in Windsor DONT EVEN TARGET CANADA for that reason. And as far as "poetic justice" goes it wouldn't make good business sense if my group or other groups to get passed over because we just pointed out what WE got from the article and truth is the only ARTISTS mentioned BELLY and Kardi are the only ones getting PLAY here...No body's shitting on anybody... I totally agree with the points you made about artists here not having press kits, singles in rotation, professional videos that actually get spins, the truth is a lot of artists from Windsor lack that business and professionalism depending on Myspace, Sound-click,burnt CDs, not registering with SoCan, not submitting music to the college music stations, and poorly promoted local shows. But for the artists that are following the criteria.. all we are looking for is acknowledgement. cuz I know many artists in Toronto and other regions who would agree with me that CANADIAN HIP-HOP lacks unity...Point Blank.... |

I know that there are some hard working kats in Windsor and that's a fact. I know we are hungry...very hungry. It will come. Let's just try and build the relationships we must build k. It will come. Academy is doing made work and I take my hat off to them cuz they WON'T STOP. And those are the people that i love to work with cuz they have the mind set like me. I just want to put in work.
One love to you too Belushi for even mentioning the name Essex Court and Quiz. I thank you for that cuz you don't have to.
STAY UP...ALL OF YOU AND KEEP STRIVING.

I thought the article made a lot of valid points as did Kayce. I also think that the response to what Kayce had to say was out of line. Totally missed his point. But I'm not going back over it.
But i will say this, the reason Windsor artists get looked over time and time again is simple business practices. Even the so-called established Windsor or "from Windsor" artists continue to make the same errors in their business practices.
Some of you are starting to figure it out but look how long its taking for that to happen? If you really want to succeed in the music business or any other, someone is seriously going to have to sit down with a business book and read it! Or find someone that has strong business principals that will be willing to show you what your doing wrong. A millionaire once told me that "People fail at business because they choose to ignore the known rules of success!" I've never forgotten that lesson or the lessons that would come after...
For those of you that might take what I'm saying seriously get the book "E-Myth" by Michael E Gerber. Most successful business people I know or read about practice the principals in this book. This book is also one of the principle reasons Embassy Ent Inc. was as effective as it was in such a short time frame.
Also, your crew must have a strategy. "Dropping CDs" is not one of them. Pick up a map of any territory you think you want to concur get to know it, execute a plan, then go for it! Verify your results then go after it again!
I can't really get into it now because it would take too much time... But the music/entertainment business is a lot simpler than you may realize. IF YOU CONTROL IT!...That's a clue!
Study "AKON" he is the most recent artist to have figured it out. He's a good study for Canadian artists as well because he is not from the US yet he is having his way with it.
And another thing, stop listening to artists that haven't accomplished what YOU want to accomplish. What can they possibly tell you? How they keep failing too? Up grade your standards!
Ambassador word of the Day!"
Learn your lessons now because time isn't going to stand still waiting for you to figure it out!!!" _________________ CEO Embassy Entertainment Group Inc |
